Death Tower is a parkour challenge located in Infinitus at approximately X:-70, Z:-100. It ranks among the oldest surviving challenges on the server, being one of the constructs migrated from the old server, and the first five levels compose the third of the basic parkour quests.

Access

Unlike the other basic parkour quests, Death Tower can be accessed independently of the quest from anywhere using the "/deathtower" command. This command will teleport the player directly to the starting platform in Infinitus. If the player has set his or her home in Infinitus to the starting platform, then the "/home" command will also teleport the player here while in Infinitus.

Challenge

The tower consists of two sections. The first section, containing five levels, occupies the stone tower itself. The other section, containing three additional levels, occupies a large mass of nether brick beneath the tower.

The front exterior of the tower has the starting platform, which includes a warp portal back to spawn, a warp portal to the viewing rooms that allow spectators to see various parts of the challenge, and a large skull statue in whose mouth lies the entrance to the challenge.

The first four levels are largely short exercises in particular jumps. The first two are composed mostly of standard two-block jumps, the third introduces ladder jumps, and the fourth drills three-block jumps. The fifth is much longer, however, starting off with navigation along a narrow ledge around the whole fringe of the tower, followed by several ladder jumps and newly introduced techniques. Upon completion of the fifth level, the player exits through a small opening just above the start of the level and is led down a hallway around the exterior wall of the tower, to the NPC He Jumped Death. If the player has the Laugh in the face of death (Daily) quest active, talking to this NPC will complete it and grant the reward.

Beyond He Jumped Death lies a deep glass shaft leading into a giant block of Nether Brick, the second section of the challenge. No known reward exists for completion of this section. It includes three levels, each in their own room, with block jumps and ladder jumps over pits of lava spanning each entire room, save for the spectator sections to the side. At the end of the third such level (the eighth level in total), the passage is blocked off with a sign reading "ACCESS DENIED -- UNDER CONSTRUCTION". The status of this construction is currently unknown.

Trivia

  • Death Tower dates back as far as 2011, and predates the sprinting mechanic. As such, the original version of the tower could be completed entirely without sprinting. This is still true for the first three levels, however no longer true in the later levels due to modifications introduced to prevent shortcuts made possible by sprinting.
  • The starting platform includes now-defunct milk buttons which previously provided milk buckets to players. At the time, health and hunger were not automatically restored while in the tower, and the milk would provide sustenance at the cost of creating a "drunk" effect from a server plugin.
  • The empty pit at the bottom used to contain water -- this was removed in later iterations.
